Between 1992 and 2002 I regularly visited the United States and Canada, often spending months at a time driving the length and breadth of the continent in hired pickup trucks or travelling on Greyhound buses. During this period I produced a substantial body of work that subsequently became my ‘signature’ when approaching newspapers and magazines for commissions. In 1998 I sold my first image to Harper Collins for a book cover; Peter Hedges’ An Ocean in Iowa, and discovered I could fund future trips by similar means. To date I have supplied imagery for over 100 book covers, a selection of which can be found on my website. I have selected a number of my favourite images from the many thousands in the archive and grouped them into five themes.
