11th April 2025

Wow! Despite the damp end to the weekend, which, to be honest, the land is gasping for, what a fantastic week it has been in Platt in terms of weather.

At dawn on the 8th, I rambled around the edge of the local quarries and then picked my way through the churchyard and woods. The evening light on the 10th was sublime. A waxing gibbous moon hung in the evening sky, larks rose and fell above Beechin Wood while a yellowhammer, high in a row of silver birch, sang to the setting sun. It was incredibly still, and the new weathervane on the old water tower was fixed in a southeasterly direction.

Great Comp Gardens, always a popular destination on warm spring days, was buzzing on Saturday, the day before the annual Spring Fling Planet Fair. Under crystal clear blue skies, the gardens looked magnificent, and I had to remind myself to occasionally stop photographing and digest the seasonal colours.

This is Platt in the second week of April 2025.
